Test Weekly

Generally speaking, alarm manufacturers recommend that you perform a "walk test" every week.  This test can help you determine when a zone is not working.  Instructions can be found in your user guide.  Please call our office before you begin your walk test. 

** An Authorized Service Representative should test the smoke detectors, low temperature sensors, system communication, & charging systems regularly. 

Ademco - Disarm the system and make sure all of the doors and windows are closed.  When it says "system ready" put in your 4 digit code, then 5, then 0.  Your siren will sound for 1 second, then the system will be in test mode.  Walk around and open each door & walk in front of each motion detector and the keypad will beep 3 times.  This is how you know that the device is working.  For wireless devices there is a 3 minute delay between the ability to send each signal.  When you are done put in your 4 digit code, then off. 

Elk Products - Press "Elk" then the up arrow until "walk test" appears.  Press the right arrow and the test will begin.  Walk around the home and open every door and walk in front of the motion detector(s).  Press the "Elk" key when finished.
